Westwood was built in 1890 and served as a private residence until 2009. In 1984 Westwood was placed on the National Register of Historic Places. The house is 5,213 square feet on two levels and includes a spacious basement and attic. In 2014 the residence was preserved and adapted to serve as a museum and office space for Knox Heritage. Many challenges had to be overcome in order to install current, Code-compliant, state-of-the art fire sprinkler, plumbing and HVAC system in a building not originally designed to have indoor plumbing or be mechanically cooled. A great deal of effort was put into keeping the 21st-century elements out of sight and sound while at the same time preserving the historic structure and construction materials.
